Custom ACM cut-out letters are the most cost-effective way to deliver bold, dimensional signage for shopfronts, reception walls, building facades and architectural branding. Platinum Signs manufactures ACM letters in-house at our Australian production facility using a precision flatbed CNC router, giving every letter clean, square-cut edges at a price point that undercuts solid aluminium or stainless steel alternatives while still delivering a premium, lasting finish.
Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) — also marketed as Dibond, Alucobond, Signbondor simply composite panel— consists of two thin aluminium face sheets bonded to a solid polyethylene core. The result is a panel that is remarkably rigid and flat, yet significantly lighter than solid metal. Our 3mm ACM is the industry-standard thickness for cut-out letters, delivering the right balance of weight, rigidity and edge presence when mounted with stud pins or VHB tape.
ACM is typically 30–45% cheaper than solid aluminium for the same visual dimension, without compromising outdoor durability.
The polyethylene core keeps weight down, which simplifies installation on plaster, gyprock, timber, concrete, brick or tile substrates.
The pre-finished aluminium face takes custom paint or vinyl overlay exceptionally well — any RAL, Pantone or corporate colour.
5–7 years outdoor lifespan with painted finishes; non-corroding aluminium face tolerates UV, rain, salt spray and temperature swings.
The visible black polyethylene core creates a subtle pinstripe accent that reads as intentional, modern detailing up close.

Because ACM is CNC router cut (not laser cut), very fine decorative scripts with hairline strokes can be fragile at smaller sizes. For best results we recommend bold sans-serif fonts or weighted serif fonts with a minimum stroke thickness of approximately 6mm at the letter heights we produce. Popular choices include Helvetica Bold, Montserrat Bold, Avenir Black, Gotham, Futura Bold, Bebas Neue, Bodoni Bold and custom corporate wordmarks. If your logo uses a finer script or weight, consider our solid aluminium letters or acrylic letter cutting— both are laser cut and handle thinner strokes effortlessly.
Every ACM letter can be supplied with one of three mounting configurations depending on the substrate and desired look: stud mounting pins for a floating stand-off effect (our most popular choice — creates a subtle shadow line), VHB adhesive tape pre-applied to the rear for flat indoor surfaces, or threaded stand-off rods for raised letters with a more pronounced shadow, ideal for hero feature walls. Our team supplies a mounting template with every order so your installer can locate and drill the fixings accurately on site.
