Danger Signs — Buyer's Guide (Red + Black + White)

Danger signs are AS 1319's top-severity category — used only for hazards where exposure will or may cause death or serious injury. The format is a black 'DANGER' text on a red oval inside a black rectangle at the top, with hazard-specific pictogram and wording below.

Danger signs are commonly required by standards beyond AS 1319 — Work Health and Safety Regulations (asbestos, confined space, hazardous chemicals), AS/NZS 3000 (electrical), AS 2865 (confined spaces), AS 4964 (asbestos register).

When Danger is mandatory

  • Live electrical — switchboards, transformers, MV equipment
  • Confined space — tanks, pits, vessels
  • Asbestos — confirmed ACM locations
  • Radioactive material — storage, transport, medical
  • Hazardous chemicals — store and transfer points
  • Overhead crane operating area
  • Deep excavation / unguarded edges
  • Biological hazard (BSL-2+ areas)

Multi-hazard signs

Many workplaces need multi-hazard danger signs — e.g. 'DANGER — Confined Space, Authorised Entry Only, Permit Required, Gas Test Before Entry'. We produce these custom on 3mm ACM with up to 6 lines of hazard-specific text, typically 600×900mm for visibility at access doors.
