Signage Size Guide — From A-Frames to Building Facades

A-frames (sandwich boards)

A-frame signs are standardised around two dominant sizes — the 600 × 900mm retail A-frame and the 800 × 1200mm large-format footpath A-frame. Local councils vary slightly on what's allowed on a footpath; City of Sydney caps sandwich boards at 600 × 900mm, while most suburban councils allow up to 800 × 1200mm.

• Retail standard — 600 × 900mm (most common)
• Large footpath — 800 × 1200mm
• Snap-frame A-frame (changeable face) — 600 × 900mm with A1 insert
• Real estate inspection — 600 × 450mm (smaller for directional use)

Pull-up banners

Pull-up banners are so standardised that "850 × 2000mm" is almost a universal default. That size fits most cassette mechanisms, prints on a single pass through a large-format roll-fed press (our standard vinyl roll printer), and ships in a standard aluminium carry case. Wider formats exist (1200 × 2000mm, 1500 × 2000mm) but they're specialty.

• Standard — 850 × 2000mm
• Wide — 1200 × 2000mm
• Extra wide — 1500 × 2000mm
• Double-sided — 850 × 2000mm (same face dimensions, heavier base)

Vinyl banners

Vinyl banners have no standard size — they're cut to order. But our material and printer constraints create sensible maximum dimensions. Our large-format roll-fed press prints to 1600mm roll width, so a single-panel banner maxes out at 1600mm on the short side. Anything wider needs seaming.

• Common promotional sizes: 1000 × 500mm, 1500 × 750mm, 2000 × 1000mm, 3000 × 1000mm, 6000 × 1000mm
• Max single-panel width: 1600mm (Colorado print width)
• Max length on roll: 20m practical limit before handling becomes awkward

Shopfront and ACM panels

ACM panels are constrained by raw sheet stock. Standard sheet is 1220 × 2440mm; oversize outdoor stock is 1500 × 3000mm. Any single-panel sign inside those bounds is one piece — anything bigger splits into multiple panels with butt joints or cover strips.

• Small fascia / sub-fascia: 1200 × 300mm, 1800 × 400mm, 2400 × 600mm
• Standard shopfront: 3000 × 600mm to 4000 × 800mm (may need panel split)
• Large fascia / pylon face: 2400 × 1200mm (within standard sheet)
• Oversize single-panel: up to 1500 × 3000mm using outdoor-grade stock
• Building facade: any size, achieved by multi-panel with 3–5mm expressed joints

Under-awning lightboxes

Under-awning lightboxes have industry-standard sizes that match common A-format paper. Sydney shopping strips are dominated by the double-sided A0 box, with A1 and A2 available for shorter fascias.

• A2 under-awning: 594 × 420mm
• A1 under-awning: 841 × 594mm
• A0 under-awning: 1189 × 841mm (most common)
• A0 landscape double-height: 1189 × 1680mm (specialty)

3D letters — typical heights

For 3D letter signage, the letter height drives everything — cost, legibility, install time. Standard Australian rules of thumb for letter height:

Wall graphics and floor murals

Wall graphics are constrained by the large-format roll-fed press 1600mm roll width. A 2.5m-high wall needs two panels installed side-by-side with a seam. Most installations use a horizontal seam deliberately placed in a design break (skyline, horizon line) to hide the join.
