Product details
Match the wording to the underfoot hazard
Use this face only when CAUTION / WATCH YOUR STEP accurately communicates the identified condition. A wet floor, unstable surface, restricted staircase or life-threatening hazard may require a more specific sign, barrier or control. Confirm the risk rather than choosing the sign from the location name alone.
Choose the material and landscape size
Polypropylene is the default rigid option. Vinyl suits a prepared smooth surface, Corflute suits temporary placement, and Colorbond steel provides a stronger mechanically fixed face. Choose 300 × 225 mm for close approaches, 450 × 300 mm for more prominence, or 600 × 450 mm for larger or visually busy approaches.
Place the warning before the step or level change
Install the sign where a person can see and act on the warning before reaching the identified condition. Keep the complete face unobstructed, check it from every normal approach with the area in its usual operating state, and repeat it where one location does not provide clear coverage.
Fix or isolate the trip hazard
A sign supports hazard communication but does not remove the condition. Repair uneven surfaces and damaged steps where reasonably practicable, isolate unsafe access or provide another route while work is pending, and maintain suitable lighting, visual contrast, edge protection, handrails and housekeeping for the site.
Check the sign format before ordering
This is a general CAUTION / WATCH YOUR STEP warning face. It does not certify the location, remove the trip hazard or prove that one sign is sufficient. Confirm the risk, exact wording, placement, visibility and hierarchy of controls for the workplace before installation.
- Safe Work Australia — Slips, trips and falls — Safe Work Australia identifies uneven steps, paths and floor surfaces, poor lighting and obstructions as common contributors to slips, trips and falls, and says risks should be eliminated or minimised using a combination of controls. Read source (opens in a new tab)The page is written for health care and social assistance, but its control examples illustrate why a warning sign should not replace repair, isolation, lighting, housekeeping or safer access.
- SafeWork NSW — Guide to preventing slips, trips and falls at work — SafeWork NSW explains that missteps can occur when a person does not see a lower surface or change in the walking surface and recommends identifying contributing factors, prioritising controls and providing consistently safe access and movement. Read source (opens in a new tab)Use the guide to assess the actual condition and controls; it is not product certification for this sign face.
Before ordering
- Confirm that the exact CAUTION / WATCH YOUR STEP legend matches the assessed underfoot hazard.
- Identify every normal approach where people need to see the warning before reaching the condition.
- Choose polypropylene, vinyl, Corflute or Colorbond for the mounting surface and intended duration.
- Choose a landscape size that remains clear from the normal approach without obstructing the path.
- Confirm the repairs, isolation, alternate route, lighting, contrast, housekeeping and other controls required for the site.
This is general product information, not legal or engineering advice. A safety sign is one part of a workplace control system; confirm the site and jurisdictional requirements before ordering.

Frequently asked questions
What is printed on this Watch Your Step sign?
The verified landscape artwork has a black header panel with the word CAUTION in yellow, followed by the exact WATCH YOUR STEP legend in black on a yellow field. It does not include a pictogram or a specific hazard description.
Where should the sign be displayed?
Place it on the normal approach where the identified step, change in level or trip hazard can be seen and acted on before a person reaches it. Keep the complete face unobstructed and repeat the warning at separate approaches when one sign does not cover every path.
Does a Watch Your Step sign remove the trip risk?
No. Fix or remove the hazard where reasonably practicable. Depending on the site, that can include repairing the step or surface, isolating the area, providing another route, improving lighting and visual contrast, installing suitable edge or handrail treatments, and maintaining housekeeping. The sign supports those controls; it does not replace them.
Can this sign be used for a wet or slippery floor?
Only when WATCH YOUR STEP accurately describes the intended warning. A wet or slippery surface may need a more specific sign, temporary barrier, cleaning response, drainage, slip-resistant treatment or restricted access. Match the message and controls to the hazard identified at the location.
Which material, size and mounting option should I choose?
Polypropylene is the default rigid option. Self-adhesive vinyl suits a clean smooth surface, 5 mm Corflute suits temporary placement, and Colorbond steel provides a stronger mechanically fixed face. The landscape sizes are 300 × 225 mm, 450 × 300 mm and 600 × 450 mm. Optional holes apply only to rigid materials.
