Paper business cards cost pennies to produce and end up in bins within a week. Metal cards flip that economics on its head: higher unit cost, but they are kept, photographed, passed around the office, and remembered. Our 0.55mm stainless steel weighs roughly 10× a 400gsm luxury paper card of the same dimensions, yet fits in a wallet without bending.

Designing for metal — artwork tips

UV direct printing on metal behaves a little differently to printing on paper. Following these artwork conventions will give you a crisp, commercial-quality finish — or upgrade to our Design Service (+$88)and we'll handle the setup for you.

• Supply vector artwork(PDF, AI, EPS, or SVG). For photographs embedded in the card design, use 300 DPI TIFF or high-quality JPEG at final print size.
• Colour mode: CMYK. Build your file in CMYK from the start. RGB files are converted at print time and can shift in saturation, especially in deep blues and vivid reds.
• Bleed + safe area:add 3 mm bleed on every edge and keep critical content (names, logos, contact details) at least 3 mm inside the trim line. Our fiber-laser cut is within ±0.1 mm but designing to the edge never looks as good as a defined safe margin.
• Minimum font size: 7 pt.UV on metal renders smaller text slightly softer than on paper. For phone numbers and emails, 8 pt is a safer floor.
• White underbase. Brushed stainless shows some of its texture through printed colours. If you want pure, uniform colour (e.g. a full-bleed navy), include a white-layer flag in your file and we will lay a CMYK-matched white underbase before the colour pass.
• Double-sided alignment:our back-to-back register holds under 0.5 mm. For precise edge-to-edge layouts (framed borders, split graphics), keep any symmetry tolerance to 1 mm.
• Black text:specify rich black (C40 M30 Y30 K100) rather than pure K100 for headings and large text. Small body text is fine at K100.

Every metal business card in this listing is cut, printed, inspected and packed in-house by Platinum Signs in Sydney. We run two machines that matter for this product: a Mimaki UV flatbed for the full-colour CMYK direct print, and a 3kW fiber laser cutter for the precision metal cut and the 1.5 mm safety-radius corners. No subcontracting, no offshore freight windows, no "we'll have to check with our supplier." If you call during business hours you speak to someone on the production floor.

Production quality control is per-bundle: every staff bundle gets a sheet check for registration, colour consistency, edge burr, and corner finish before it ships. Standard turnaround is 7 business days from artwork approval; urgent 3-day runs are available for a 50% surcharge and slot into our production schedule the day you approve.
