Frequently asked questions

What does AS 4084 require for racking signs?

AS 4084-2023 requires each rack run to display a load notice showing the Safe Working Load per bay and per level, the maximum number of pallets, and the inspection status. Signs must be installed so a forklift operator can read them from their normal operating position.

Are forklift warning signs legally required?

The Model WHS Regulations require a PCBU to identify and control risks from powered mobile plant. The specific signs aren't prescribed, but clearly identifying forklift operating areas, keeping pedestrians separated, and warning at blind corners are standard and expected controls. WHS inspectors routinely check for them.

Do I need floor graphics or overhead signs?

Both, usually. Floor graphics (yellow lines, pedestrian crossings, aisle markings) are unambiguous at close range. Overhead signs are visible from further away. A comprehensive warehouse uses floor graphics to define zones and overhead signs to warn of hazards.
