Which STOP sign do you need?
The correct product depends on whether you are controlling road traffic, warning of a condition ahead or communicating an operating instruction at a workplace or fuel point.

Regulatory STOP signs for Australian traffic control
The familiar red octagonal sign is an R1-1 regulatory traffic sign. It is different from a general workplace safety notice and should not be treated as an AS 1319 sign. Its use, size, reflective class, support, position and relationship to a stop line can be governed by the approved traffic-control arrangement and the requirements of the relevant state or territory.
On public roads, purchasing a STOP sign does not authorise installation. On private roads, car parks, depots and industrial traffic routes, the responsible site traffic plan should still determine whether STOP control is appropriate instead of GIVE WAY control. The complete installation includes more than the sign face: sight distance, mounting height, lateral clearance, support and road marking may all matter.
Reflective face, aluminium and production
Our standard R1-1 STOP sign uses 1.6 mm aluminium with 3M Class 400 reflective sheeting. We produce the face in house using our Canon Colorado UVgel printing platform and precision-cut the aluminium octagon by fibre laser. The product is backed by the published three-year outdoor finished-sign and workmanship warranty, subject to its stated conditions and Australian Consumer Law rights.
Class 400 is not a universal substitute for every road-authority specification. Some projects require Class 900, Class 1100 or a nominated matched-component system. Confirm the current approved drawing, traffic-control plan and jurisdictional specification before ordering. Higher or project-specific reflective grades remain a quoted path.
STOP sign questions
Which STOP sign is used to control vehicles at an intersection?
The red octagonal R1-1 STOP sign is the regulatory traffic sign used where an approved traffic-control arrangement requires a driver to stop. The responsible road authority, traffic engineer or approved site traffic plan should determine whether STOP control is warranted and specify the size, reflective class, support and placement.
Can I install an R1-1 STOP sign on a public road?
Buying the sign does not authorise its installation on a public road. Installation, replacement or relocation can require approval from the relevant road authority. Confirm the current jurisdictional requirements and approved traffic-control plan before ordering or installing the sign.
Is a School Bus Stop Ahead sign the same as a STOP sign?
No. School Bus Stop Ahead is an advance warning sign. It alerts drivers to a bus-stop condition ahead but does not create the same stop-and-give-way instruction as an R1-1 regulatory STOP sign.
Are stop-engine signs road signs?
No. Stop Engine No Smoking and Stop Engine Before Refuelling No Smoking are site or fuel-area instructions. They address ignition and refuelling risks and should not be used as substitutes for regulatory road-traffic signs.
What reflective material is included on the R1-1 STOP sign?
The standard Platinum Signs R1-1 product includes 3M Class 400 reflective sheeting on 1.6 mm aluminium. Some jurisdictions or project specifications require another class, including Class 900 or Class 1100, so the approved drawing and road-authority requirement remain the source of truth.
