Where this TOILETS sign works best

Use it to identify a shared toilet or amenity doorway in offices, warehouses, workshops, retail premises, schools, hospitality venues and community facilities. Because the design does not specify gender or accessibility, it is useful only where the general TOILETS message accurately describes the facility.

Choose a compact or standard format

The 200 × 50 mm sign is a compact close-range door label. The 300 × 100 mm version has greater visual presence for corridors and busier shared spaces. Self-adhesive vinyl is sold in packs of three for prepared smooth surfaces. Polypropylene and Colorbond steel are sold individually as lightweight and stronger rigid options respectively.

Door placement and wayfinding

Mount the sign on or immediately beside the identified doorway and keep the complete legend visible on the normal approach. Check visibility with the door open and closed. Add a separate directional toilet sign where a visitor must turn, change level or continue along a corridor before reaching the facility.

Printed identification is not tactile signage

This flat printed sign has no braille, raised characters or accessibility pictogram. NCC 2022 D4D7 requires braille and tactile signs to identify sanitary facilities in buildings where those provisions apply, and NCC Specification 15 sets design and installation requirements. Use the approved accessible-signage schedule for regulated locations.

Before ordering

  • Confirm that a general TOILETS legend correctly identifies the facility without needing a male, female, unisex, accessible or ambulant designation.
  • Choose 200 × 50 mm for a compact door label or 300 × 100 mm for greater corridor visibility.
  • Choose a three-sign vinyl pack for a clean smooth surface, or an individual polypropylene or Colorbond rigid sign.
  • Check whether the building also requires a separate braille and tactile sanitary-facility sign.
  • Position the sign where it remains visible with the door open and closed, and add directional wayfinding where the route is not obvious.
