Education facilities carry both WHS duties (staff) and a duty of care to students. Signage covers visitor sign-in (safeguarding), accessibility, emergency egress, laboratory/workshop PPE and playground/sports safety.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 'Visitors must report to reception' sign legally required?

State education departments typically require schools to have a visitor-management process for child-safeguarding reasons, and physical signage at every entry is the standard implementation. While not a specific WHS requirement, it's a condition of the department's policy and is routinely audited.

What about stranger danger / sex-offender registered signage?

No state requires this as sign-mandated content. Child-protection duties are discharged through visitor management, WWCC verification, supervision policies and security operations — not signage warning about specific threats.

Do we need pool signs if the school has a pool?

Yes. State pool-safety regulations require specific signs at school pools including depth markers, pool rules, emergency contact and (in most states) CPR charts. Check your state education department's pool operations policy and your local council's pool safety regulations.
