Are Privacy Notices legally required in the waiting room?

Under Australian Privacy Principle 5 (APP 5), a health service provider must take reasonable steps to notify patients about how their personal information is handled. A physical sign or framed notice in the waiting area is the standard implementation, supplemented by practice website and registration-form disclosures.

Do we need specific infection-control signage?

During respiratory-disease outbreaks (COVID, flu season) state health departments typically release specific signage (please don a mask, please check in, isolate if symptomatic). Permanent signage should cover hand hygiene, cough etiquette and a 'please inform staff if unwell' notice at reception. RACGP accreditation routinely examines infection control.

What material works in clinical spaces?

Wipeable polypropylene or laminated vinyl — clinical surfaces are cleaned daily with hospital-grade disinfectants. Avoid porous paper posters which trap micro-organisms. Framed polycarbonate is a premium option for consult-room walls.
