Why acrylic — and when another material fits better.
Few materials do as much. It carries a premium, glass-like presence at a fraction of the weight and cost of real glass, takes full-colour print beautifully, and cuts to any shape with a crisp polished edge — which is why it's the default for reception panels, office and retail signage, displays and dimensional lettering.
Against glass, it's lighter, safer and far easier to mount, with none of the breakage risk. Against metal or ACM, it offers depth, clarity and a softer, more refined look — brushed aluminium and composite panel suit industrial and large-format exterior work, while clear and coloured panels own the premium interior. Against foam PVC or corflute, it's the step up in quality and lifespan: those are the economical pick for campaign and temporary signage, while a cast panel is what you specify when the sign represents the brand for years.
The honest answer is that the right choice depends on the job — exposure, budget, size and the impression you want to make. Tell us the brief and we'll recommend it straight, whether that's a printed panel, cut lettering, an illuminated build, or a different material altogether.
Deep dive
A closer look at acrylic signage.
Everything worth knowing before you order — expand any topic below.
We use cast acrylic for premium panels, reception signs and cut letters — it laser-cuts to a crystal-clear, flame-polished edge and holds colour beautifully. Extruded acrylic is used where flatness and budget matter most. We'll recommend the right grade for the job.
Face printing applies your design to the front of the panel. Reverse printing prints onto the back of clear acrylic, so you view the graphic through the panel — creating a glossy depth effect while the acrylic itself protects the ink from scratches and UV. Reverse printing is the preferred method for most indoor acrylic signs. A white-ink backing keeps reversed colours vibrant and opaque; leave it off for a deliberate translucent or backlit effect.
For most wall-mounted signs, 3mm is ideal. Step up to 6–10mm for larger panels, freestanding displays or a premium dimensional look — perfect for reception areas and corporate branding. 15–40mm suits luxury applications, dimensional lettering, acrylic blocks and architectural features. Not sure? We match the thickness to the size, the mounting method and the setting.
Indoors, acrylic signs last 10+ years with minimal maintenance. For outdoor use, UV direct printing on acrylic typically lasts 3–5 years, and reverse printing on clear acrylic extends this because the acrylic layer shields the ink. Acrylic is highly weather-resistant and does not yellow for many years — coastal or high-UV sites benefit from optional UV-stabilised inks.
Our UV flatbed press achieves 95%+ Pantone coverage on acrylic. Supply your Pantone or brand-guide reference and we colour-match at pre-press. For critical work — rebrand launches, investor signage — we can supply a printed proof on the actual acrylic substrate for sign-off before the production run.
Acrylic signs mount on polished stainless standoffs, concealed fixings, VHB adhesive or screw-fixing — chosen for the sign and the wall. Our own crews install across Sydney metro; Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra are covered through our contractor network. EWP hire and removal of existing signage are quoted separately.
They're the same material — Perspex is simply a brand name for acrylic. We use both terms interchangeably, and we'll always spec the right grade, thickness and finish for your project.
A single panel runs up to 2440 × 1220mm — a full sheet — down to a 50 × 50mm minimum, and anything larger is produced as a seamless multi-panel arrangement. Because everything is CO2-laser and CNC cut in-house, you're not limited to rectangles: letters, logos, discs, rounded corners and fully bespoke outlines are all standard, cut cleanly to your vector file with polished edges.
Full-colour logos, photographs and brand graphics print directly to the surface on our UV flatbed press — sharp, durable and scuff-resistant. You can print onto the face, or reverse-print behind a clear sheet so the artwork is viewed through the panel and physically protected. A white ink layer keeps reversed colours opaque and punchy; leave it off for a translucent or lit effect.
Clear sheet without a backing is ideal for backlighting, while white or opal material gives an even, edge-lit glow. For fully integrated pieces with embedded LED modules, our slimline lightbox and custom neon ranges take over — tell us the effect you want and we'll point you to the right build.
Beyond flat panels we cut individual letters, logos and shapes, then layer and standoff-mount them for a genuine three-dimensional look. Stacked builds, raised logos and full brand walls are everyday work — supply the vector outline and we cut to it precisely.
Outdoors, panels hold up well when the grade, thickness and fixings are matched to the exposure. Reverse-printed graphics last longer because the sheet shields the ink from weather and sun, and UV-stabilised inks are worth specifying for coastal or high-glare sites. We'll flag anything that needs a weatherproof spec before it goes into production.
Keep the surface looking new with a soft microfibre cloth and a mild soapy solution — never solvents or abrasive pads, which can haze the finish. Indoors, a well-made panel stays crisp for a decade or more with almost no upkeep.
With cutting, printing and finishing all under one roof in Botany, we move fast once artwork is approved — most standard jobs are ready within days, and you'll get a firm date with your quote. Larger rollouts and custom builds are scheduled around your install dates.
Send print-ready vector files (PDF, AI, EPS or SVG) at actual size with a little bleed and we'll take it from there. No finished artwork yet? Our in-house design team can build it, and we supply a digital proof for your sign-off before anything is produced.

Reverse printing (onto the back of a clear sheet, viewed through the panel) gives a glossy, protected finish and is the go-to for premium indoor signs. Face printing sits on the front and suits opaque and outdoor pieces. We'll recommend the right method for the job.
When you reverse-print onto a clear sheet, a white ink layer makes the colours vibrant and opaque. Leave it off only if you want a deliberately translucent or backlit effect.
Indoors, expect 10+ years with normal use. Outdoors, printed graphics typically run 3–5 years, and reverse printing extends that because the sheet protects the ink. A 12-month manufacturing warranty covers print fade, delamination and defects.
